<div>1) Band Boosters meeting. Tuesday April 10th at 5:30pm in the band room. Please plan to attend. We will be discussing all the upcoming events listed below.</div>

<div>2) Solo and Ensemble is April 14th in Los Alamos. The band will leave from the school (it&#8217;s a Saturday) time of departure is yet to be determined depending on the time the kids are scheduled. Ms. Kincaid has requested a morning time&#8211;we will let you know as soon as this is firmed up.</div>

<div>3) State Competition is April 20th in Rio Rancho. Students will travel by bus and return to the school, probably in the early evening. Once again, we do not yet have exact times but will let you know. Anyone interested in chaperoning either of these events, please let Ms. Kincaid, Mr. Arnold or Sarah (me) know.</div>

<div>4) April 27 and/or 28th&#8211;fundraiser TAG SALE!!! We have received approval from administration to hold a fundraising tag sale in the Tipton. This should be a lot of fun and a great chance for everyone to get rid of some extra stuff. This will require a certain amount of organization, planning and execution so please, please plan to help out. Start setting aside any items you are willing to donate and pass the word!!</div>

<p>In attendance: Michael Warren, Elaine Heltman, Brian Johnson, Ronnie Ortiz, Sarah Wallace, Dorothy Kincaid, Katy Dahlman.</p>
<p>Meeting commenced at 5:30 p.m.</p>
<p>Discussion re: upcoming Hummingbird band retreat March 2 &amp; 3.  Richard Snider will be the lead clinician.</p>
<p>Treasurer’s Report: the balance of the Club’s account is $9596.34. Gross poinsettia sales were $13,171.21 and our net profit was $5649.37! Great job!</p>
<p>The idea of the the band boosters administrating a paypal account so that there would not be any additional administrative overhead for the school was discussed.</p>
<p>Discussion re fundraising ideas: white elephant/tag sale &#8211; late March?</p>
<p>Katy Dahman suggested a number of fundraising ideas that had been successful at her church in the past including selling cookie dough around the holidays.</p>
<p>Ronnie read the draft for a summer scholarship program to reimburse students who want to further their musical education over the summer.</p>

<p>Winter Concert: Diahann Larson will lead the opening prayer; choir will assist with sing-a-long</p>

<p><strong>Minutes</strong> of the October 4, 2011 meeting were distributed via e-mail and read prior to the meeting, and approved.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Treasurer’s Report</strong>:  the balance of the Club’s account is $6,230.00.  Discussion concerning paying for the students’ and teachers’ meals during Honor Band weekend.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Old Business – Poinsettia Fundraiser:</strong>  Discussions: the completion of the fundraising postcard/flyer to all SMHS alumni; mailing is planned before Thanksgiving; the need for more business sales;; reminder of 12/1 poinsettia pick-up from 1:30 – 6:30p.m.</p>
<p>Action Items: Sarah will send out a list to members requesting they select a business to contact from an attached list and “reply to all” to inform everyone;</p>
<p>Mr. Arnold was asked to remind students that their relatives could donate money in lieu of purchasing a plant, message and arrange for a message re the Band’s fundraising efforts to be placed on the SMHS’ web page;</p>
<p>Dorothy was asked to arrange for a “School Reach” message to be blasted to the school community.</p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>New Business:  </strong>Christmas concert is set for December 15, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in Tipton.  Students should arrive by 5:30.  Christine volunteered to chair the hospitality committee for the post-concert reception</p>
<p>Action Item: Following a suggestion by Mr. Arnold to invite elementary school band students to attend the concert, Elaine volunteer to create a flyer.</p>

<p>Discussion re Band’s participation at quarter-final game on Saturday, November 19 – Go Horsemen!</p>

<p><strong>Report from Mr. Arnold: </strong>soliciting recruitment ideas; considering a series of recruitment concerts in the elementary schools; sessions with clinicians are going well with the H.S. Band; congratulations to the Honor Band attendees on their performance and hard work; many thanks to the Johnson family chaperones.</p>

<p><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">The minutes from the September 13 Meeting were read and approved</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Treasurer’s Report<br />
</strong>With the recent deposit of two checks and paying out several clinicians, the budget stands at $8,182.20.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><strong>Reports from Mr. Arnold and Ms. Kincaid<br />
</strong>Mr. Arnold is scheduled to speak to Taylor Gantt to discuss the possibility of offering scholarships to band student to help increase numbers. </span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="font-size: small;"> He also discussed the possibility of donating some unused instruments to Ortiz Middle school whose band program is in desperate need of them. This would build a relationship within the school band community and help with recruiting efforts.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="font-size: small;">Also discussed was the scheduling of several promotional concerts to help recruit future band students. Eldorado Elementary, Carlos Gilbert are two locations being targeted.  Feeder schools in the neighborhood of these schools will also be invited to attend.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Mr. Arnold will work with Brian Johnson to write a proposal to the Yamaha Corporation to obtain sponsorship for the band and possible donation of instruments.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Stacy Neff will give a short presentation to band students about how to pitch sales to businesses “the elevator conversation.”</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="font-size: small;">Sarah will follow up with Lynette Montoya about acquiring a marimba and other percussion instruments per a discussion at the September 6</span><span style="font-size: x-small;"><sup>th</sup></span><span style="font-size: small;"> meeting.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Finally, it was emphasized that announcing concert dates needs to be much better organized. Low turn out last year was partly due to poorly planned publicity.</span></span></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">NEW BUSINESS</span></span></strong></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Poinsettia Fundraiser<br />
</strong>Students will be bringing home poinsettia-sales forms this week. Each student will need to sell 25 poinsettias. Poinsettia pick up will be at the St. Mike’s cafeteria on December 1</span><span style="font-size: x-small;"><sup>st</sup></span><span style="font-size: small;"> between 1:30 and 6:30 pm. Each student will be responsible to pick up and deliver their own poinsettia sales. Sarah will contact Dot Breeden to ask if she will serve as the contact person for this year’s poinsettia sales. Sales efforts need to be started immediately as money needs to be turned in to Ms. Kincaid or Mr. Arnold by November 16</span><span style="font-size: x-small;"><sup>th</sup></span><span style="font-size: small;">.</span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Christine McDermott agreed to chair the hospitality committee for the upcoming winter concert.</span></span></p>

</strong>A band picnic is scheduled for the homecoming football game on October 15. Band students and family will gather on the adjacent baseball field during half time and third quarter of the game. Pizza will be provided.  A set-up/break-down crew will need to be organized for this event.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Reschedule Concert Dates<br />
</strong>Ronnie Ortiz mentioned that concerts scheduled on week nights receive poor attendance due to people’s busy schedules. She suggested that changing the concert dates to a Sunday afternoon might better accommodate students, friends and family who might attend concerts. This item was tabled for the next meeting.</span></span></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A big fat <strong>thank you!</strong> goes out to the band boosters for providing funds to bring in clinicians to work with the band members to prepare for Honor Band auditions.</p>
<p>Mr. Arnold will be in the band room today from 9-12:30 to to record Honor Band auditions for students who have not yet recorded, or wish to re-record their auditions.</p>
<p>Judging for Honor Band will be held tomorrow in Las Vegas.</p>
<p>Good luck to everyone who auditioned!</p>

<p>Hi there everyone.  The band website is back in business.  This will be your online resource for information about the band&#8217;s activities.  Please <a title="subscribe by email" href="http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/mailverify?uri=StMikesBand&amp;loc=en_US" target="_blank">subscribe to the website</a>, you will get all the updates delivered to you by email and you won&#8217;t miss a thing.  All of the scheduled events will be getting posted to the band calendar shortly.</p>
<p><strong>Parents</strong>, your kids need your help.  The band boosters are essential in providing support to the band by organizing the Poinsettia Sale, helping with the retreat, bringing water to the football games and a host of other important activities. Sarah Wallace has graciously volunteered to be president of the boosters this year but she can&#8217;t do it alone!  We still need a Vice-President, Secretary &amp; Treasurer.</p>
<p>The next booster&#8217;s meeting is <strong>Oct 4th at 5:30</strong> in the band room.  Come and put your two cents in, help organize the Poinsettia Sale (all proceeds go to the kids),  volunteer for a board position or just find out what&#8217;s happening with the band. Here&#8217;s your chance to push your weight around <img src='http://stmikesband.org/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
